Abstract : This paper examines the switch open circuit fault in a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) fed three phase induction motor (IM) using Finite Element Method (FEM). The analysis is based on the electromagnetic field parameter of the IM, when an IGBT switch in the PWM inverter leg gets open circuited. The simulation is performed on 7.5kW PWM inverter fed three phase IM and several parameters like torque, speed, current, flux distribution, flux density, radial flux density are investigated under healthy amp; single switch open circuit faulty condition using ANSYS MAXWELL Finite Element Analysis(FEA) tool. © 2017 IEEE.
