Abstract : Sexuality plays a provocative role in the African American literature. Nineteenth and twentieth century African American writers have had to show the conflicting ideas of realistic depiction of sexual expression and the stereotypical images of black sexuality. In The Women of Brewster Place, Naylor boldly introduces a lesbian couple and their struggle for identity. Naylor narrates her view that every action that men engage is, in some way, indicative of their need to expose their sexual energy. Men in the society suppressed the women in order to satisfy their sexual desire hence Naylor treats men as sexual predators.
