Abstract : Medical students invariably use the human skeleton to learn the anatomy of the human body. But after use these bones are often disposed off carelessly along with garbage or in deserted public places, only to be discovered later by someone or the other. Discovery of unknown skeletal remains poses a great challenge to the police and forensic surgeons and attracts widespread media attention and causes public frenzy. This paper discusses a case where a bag of skeletons was discovered by a random person in a vacant plot. Case was registered by the police and a detailed medico legal examination of the skeletal remains was done. The skeletal remains were found to be those used as a study material in the medical field, disposed carelessly after use. Throwing away human remains is illegal and is punishable under 297IPC. There should be proper guidelines for the disposal of human remains and medical students should be educated regarding the same.
