About the Competition

The competition will be conducted in two phases:

Phase 1 – The Idea: Submit your idea in the given format. No coding required. You need to select the thematic area, come up with the title of the proposed work (eg. Forecasting COVID-19 daily spread in Tamil Nadu), a brief description of the solution and a diagram representation of how your system will function.

Phase 2 – The Execution: You need to come up with a workable solution with using MATLAB. MATLAB is widely used in scientific and research community, worldwide. In case you are not familiar with MATLAB, we will try our level best to help you.

Online MATLAB version along with licence key will be provided for all the candidates selected for Phase 2.” Exclusive tutorials with certification on how to start with MATLAB will also be provided: (Topics covered in these tutorials are mentioned below)

Important Considerations

This competition is data driven and hence the following terms shall be strictly adhered to:

  • Privacy of patients and people under quarantine should be preserved. Hence, no personal details should be used.
  • Solutions should be scalable, assume that your solution will be used by hundreds, if not thousands, of people.
  • Any datasets to be used for designing/testing/validating the system should be from an openly accessible source.  You can find a lot of informative datasets using Google Dataset Search
Thematic Areas

Three broad thematic areas are envisaged, you can decide your own specific topics confirming to the thematic area you select:

  1. Forecasting the spread of the virus over time
    Example 1: Forecasting the number of cases in India, state-wise and overall.
    Example 2: Identifying the conditions that accelerate, inhibit the spread (eg. temperature, humidity, lockdown etc.).
  2. Detecting the presence of the virus in the body
    Example 1: Carry out rapid detection for COVID-19 presence
    Example 2: Detecting COVID from X-Rays, CT Scan images etc.
    Example 3: Identifying correlation with other body parameters ( eg. say body temperature varies in a particular pattern etc)
  3. Finding a Cure
    Example 1: Look through the literature automatically to get insights into the pandemic
    Example 2: identify the molecules that can help fight the pathogen
    Example 3: Identify conditions that cause the disease to get cured.
Collaborator

Grand Prize : Help your local ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) [Ref.1] worker keep track of the people under quarantine in his/her locality.

The tracking system will have two parts: the first will be an app that will be on the mobile phone of the ASHA worker. It should ideally be a web app or an Android app. The information gathered by the app should get updated automatically in the cloud. The second part of the tracking system will have a dashboard, which will use the information gathered by the apps (including the geographical info, such as lat.-long.) to help the authorities come up with containment measures etc.
