Mr. David Jenkins is a Clinical Director of Surgery, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Royal Papworth Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge, UK. Mr. Jenkins has experience in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery. Specialist experience includes surgical treatment of pulmonary hypertension, heart and lung transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
In 2004, he became director of the UK national pulmonary endarterectomy programme (PEA) for the treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). He is an executive board member of the International CTEPH Association. He was a member of the UK cardiac surgery clinical reference group for commissioning and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng) Professional Affairs board for Eastern England. He is also a member of the executive committee of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain & Ireland, and chairman of the audit committee. In 2016 he was elected to serve on the cardiothoracic SAC (specialist advisory committee). His research interests are related to myocardial protection, pulmonary hypertension and PEA surgery. He is currently clinical director for surgery and transplantation at Royal Papworth hospital.
