Dr. A. Sumesh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, with over 15 years of experience across advanced engineering research, higher education, and academic leadership.

He holds a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Pondicherry University, followed by an M.Tech. in Manufacturing Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering—focusing on Machine Learning application for weld signature analysis—both from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Dr. Sumesh’s research lies at the intersection of Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and Intelligent Process Monitoring. His core expertise includes:

  • Weld Signature Analysis & Process Monitoring (TIG, GMAW, FSW, and Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing – WAAM)
  • Applied Machine Learning & Signal Processing for real-time condition monitoring
  • Manufacturing System Simulation and digital twin modelling
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) and multi-objective optimization

An active contributor to the global research community, Dr. Sumesh has published over 25 Scopus-indexed research articles in leading high-impact journals and international conferences. He has served as a principal investigator on competitive research and equipment grants, focusing on state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies.

Beyond his research, Dr. Sumesh is deeply committed to academic mentorship and innovative engineering pedagogy. He actively guides Ph.D. scholars, master’s candidates, and undergraduate researchers, while continually contributing to curriculum development and outreach across the broader engineering community.
