The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore Campus, in association with Typhoon HIL GmbH, Switzerland, successfully conducted a Two-Day Hands-on Workshop on Real-Time Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Simulation for Rapid Prototyping on October 3–4, 2025, at Saraswathi Hall (AB2) and the power systems laboratory for the faculty and student members. The event was coordinated by Dr. K.R.M. Vijaya Chandrakala, Associate Professor – EEE Dept., with the support of Dr. Kanagadurga D., Post-Doctoral Fellow and Ms. Vrindha Venugopal K.V., PhD Scholar of EEE Department. The event was technically sponsored by the IEEE Student Branch, IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), and GEN-E Student Chapter. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Balamurugan S., Chairperson, Department of EEE, addressing the gathering, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Selvakumar S., Vice Chairperson, Department of EEE. Expert speakers Ms. Era Bajpai and Mr. Shivam Srivastava, HIL Expert from Typhoon HIL GmbH, Switzerland, delivered engaging simulation sessions on the topics of inverter modeling, microgrid simulation, FACTS devices, and protection schemes. Participants gained hands-on experience through practice/demonstration sessions in using the Typhoon HIL-404 hardware platform, which was conducted in the power systems laboratory (AB2) handled by Dr. K.R.M. Vijaya Chandrakala, Dr. D. Kanagadhurga and Ms. Vrindha Venugopal in real-time control and rapid prototyping applications in Power Systems, Renewable Energy and Smart Grid technologies.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session where Dr. Jayabarathi R, Vice Chairperson, Department of EEE, distributed certificates to participants, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. K.R.M. Vijaya Chandrakala. This workshop served as a platform for students, researchers, and faculty to strengthen their understanding of real-time HIL and its applications, bridging the gap between academic research and industrial innovation.
