Abstract : Mining is still considered one of the most dangerous occupations. The working environment of a miner is exposed to constant threats in the form of toxic gases, extreme temperatures, and physical hazards. Conventional safety systems fail because they lack realtime monitoring and emergency signaling. In this regard, this paper proposes an IoT-based Smart Mining Helmet that monitors environmental conditions like gas levels, temperature, and humidity. The system will alarm the miners about dangerous conditions, and there's a manual process for miners to signal emergencies when necessary. Data collected is put on a cloud platform so that supervisors can be able to observe real-time information as well as historical information at their convenience. This paper aims to discuss designing, developing, and testing this helmet, with the main contributions being an enormous improvement in safety, actionable insight, and much reduced emergency response times.
