Amrita School of Dentistry Celebrates International Yoga Day 2026

As part of the observance of International Yoga Day, a yoga session was organized for the First Year BDS students at Amrita School of Dentistry. The programme commenced with an inaugural session presided over by Dr. Rakesh Suresh, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology. A prayer followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting was performed by the faculty members of the Mastery Over Mind (MOM) meditation course and Yoga instructor Ms. Valsala, marking the formal commencement of the event.
Prior to the yoga session, students were briefed on the significance of International Yoga Day and the role of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for stress management, improved concentration, and overall health was emphasized.
The yoga session was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Valsala, Yoga Instructor. The programme began with warm-up exercises followed by breathing techniques aimed at enhancing relaxation and mindfulness. Students actively participated in the various yoga practices demonstrated during the session and gained practical exposure to basic yoga postures and breathing exercises.
The event successfully created awareness among students regarding the benefits of yoga and encouraged them to adopt healthy lifestyle practices. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and positive feedback from the participants.
