The future of healthcare depends increasingly on global collaboration that brings together excellence in medicine, research, technology and education. Recognising this shared imperative, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Imperial College London have strengthened their growing partnership through a two-day strategic engagement held across Amrita’s Kochi and Amritapuri campuses on 15–16 July 2026.
Building on existing collaborations, including ongoing research in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the engagement explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in medical education, translational research, clinical innovation, interdisciplinary science and international academic exchange. By bringing together complementary expertise across healthcare, engineering and emerging technologies, the discussions reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to developing collaborative solutions that address global health challenges and create lasting societal impact.
The engagement brought together academic leaders, clinicians, researchers and international partnership teams from both institutions to identify areas where their complementary strengths can generate meaningful impact. Discussions spanned translational medicine, antimicrobial resistance, digital health, clinical innovation, continuing professional education, and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of medicine, engineering and emerging technologies.
The Imperial College London delegation comprised Li Camm, Head of Educational Partnerships, Faculty of Medicine; Adam Pryce, Director of Partnerships and Business Development, Institute of Lifelong Learning; Roxy Hughes, Educational Partnerships Officer; and Shilpi Prasad, Senior Partnerships Adviser, Imperial Global India Hub.
At Amrita Hospital, Kochi, the delegation met with Dr. Prem Nair, Provost and Group Medical Director, Amrita Hospitals, alongside senior faculty members, clinicians and researchers to discuss opportunities for expanding collaboration in medical education, translational research, healthcare innovation and faculty and student engagement.
The delegation also visited Amritapuri Campus, where discussions with academic leaders from the Faculties of Engineering and Physical Sciences, the Amrita Mind Brain Center and the Amrita Center for International Programs highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing complex healthcare challenges. The meetings explored how expertise across medicine, engineering, artificial intelligence, neuroscience and data science can be integrated to drive innovation in research, education and patient care.
A significant focus of the engagement was the continued collaboration between researchers from Amrita and Imperial in the field of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Recognising AMR as one of the most pressing global public health challenges, both institutions discussed opportunities to expand collaborative research, strengthen scientific exchange and develop scalable solutions with international relevance.
The engagement reflects Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s broader commitment to building long-term partnerships with leading global universities that advance research excellence, enrich international learning opportunities and contribute to solving complex societal challenges through innovation and collaboration.
As both institutions look ahead, the discussions are expected to catalyse deeper cooperation across research, education and healthcare, reinforcing a shared vision of creating knowledge and innovations that improve lives and strengthen global health systems.
