Job description We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow at Amritapuri Campus who will contribute to advanced research and software development in Quantum Error Correction (QEC), Quantum Error Mitigation (QEM), and fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate advanced quantum error correction and error mitigation techniques.

  • Implement stabilizer, surface, and other relevant quantum error-correcting codes.

  • Develop syndrome extraction, decoding, and logical error-rate evaluation pipelines.

  • Develop and analyse physical noise models relevant to quantum computing hardware.

  • Work with Stim, PyMatching, Qiskit-Aer, Qiskit, and related quantum computing toolchains.

  • Benchmark different decoding approaches based on accuracy, logical error rate, execution time, and computational overhead.

  • Investigate hardware-aware QEC approaches considering realistic noise characteristics and quantum circuit topologies.

  • Develop software modules for automated quantum circuit simulation, error injection, syndrome generation, decoding, and performance analysis.

  • Study and implement approaches for adaptive error mitigation and predictive noise modelling.

  • Support integration of QEC/QEM modules into a modular quantum software toolchain.

  • Conduct independent literature reviews and formulate research problems and experimental methodologies.

  • Lead the development of research prototypes and contribute to project milestones and technical deliverables.

  • Prepare research publications, technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.

  • Guide and support JRFs and other junior project members in QEC-related implementation and experimentation.

  • Collaborate with researchers working on quantum software, quantum hardware, AI-assisted decoding, and fault-tolerant quantum computing.
