Unit 1

Ordinary Differential Equations: Linear Differential Equations and Bernoulli Equation. Modelling Problems:
Mixing Problem, Electric Circuits and vibration of strings.

Unit 2

Second Order Differential Equations: Euler-Cauchy Equations, Solution by Undetermined Coefficients, Solution
by Variation of Parameters. System of ODEs, Basic Concepts and Theory, Homogeneous Systems and Nonhomogeneous with Constant Coefficients. System of differential equations.

Unit 3

Computational Methods: Euler’s methods, Runge-Kutta method.

Course Objectives and Outcomes

Course Objective

  • To model mechanical systems using differential equations.
  • To analyse and solve ordinary differential equations.
  • To understand numerical methods for solving ordinary differential equations.

Course Outcomes

CO1 Understand the basic concepts of differential equations
CO2 Solve the ordinary differential equations using variation of parameters, undetermined coefficients and by numerical tequnique.
CO3 Understand the formation of modelling problems in ordinary differential equations and apply some standard methods to obtain its solutions.
