COIMBATORE — The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, in collaboration with Wipro 3D, hosted the “Wipro 3D Roadshow on Additive Manufacturing” in the Coimbatore campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. The full-day event brought together industry stalwarts, defese personnel, researchers, and academic leaders to deliberate on the transformative potential, modern industrial deployments, and future frontiers of industrial 3D printing and additive manufacturing (AM) technologies.
The event witnessed active participation from defense and core engineering sectors, featuring prominent delegates from organizations such as the Indian Air Force, Propel Industries, and global technology leader like SLB (Schlumberger) and ELGi.
The summit commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by delegates from Wipro and Amrita. Highlighting the institution’s research trajectory, Dr. Prashant R Nair (Deputy Registrar, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) and Dr. K. Rameshkumar (Chairperson, Department of mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering) delivered a comprehensive overview of the University and Department respectively, detailing its ongoing advanced research, laboratory capabilities, and specialized engineering initiatives.
Technical Sessions, Machine Demonstrations, and Industrial Applications
The roadshow featured extensive technical presentations, product showcases, and interactive masterclasses led by domain specialists from Wipro 3D:
Mr. Deepak Saligram (Sales Head, Wipro 3D) made a presentation on Additive Manufacturing Landscape & Strategic Overview. He presented an in-depth analysis of the industrial additive manufacturing ecosystem, outlining Wipro 3D’s business footprint, end-to-end engineering solutions, and market shifts toward digital inventory and distributed manufacturing. Ms. Akshatha (Lead Addwize – Wipro 3D) delivered a session focused on conformal cooling channels, die-casting tooling enhancements, lightweighting, and structural performance improvements in high-value components.
Mr. Raj (Wipro 3D) and the technical team unveiled the capabilities of state-of-the-art AM platforms, including the Wipro 3D F300 system, elaborating on precision parameter control, material metallurgy, and machine reliability for mission-critical parts. The Event also showcased the capabilities of Amrita in terms of its Additive Manufacturing capabilities, Inviting industries for collaborative research. Mr. Kiran (Wipro 3D) showcased production-grade AM components and practical case studies across the aerospace, defense, automotive, and heavy industrial sectors, underscoring cost amortization, lead-time reduction, and design freedom.
The afternoon proceedings pivoted toward strategic industry engagements. Wipro 3D technical consultants engaged in application & opportunity mapping sessions with visiting delegates from the Indian Air Force, SLB, Propel, and regional engineering firms, identifying component candidates for additive re-engineering, prototyping, and serial production.
The event concluded with a guided tour of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s advanced manufacturing and research facilities, where visiting industry representatives examined the university’s laboratory infrastructure, collaborative research centers, and fabrication capabilities. The initiative established a roadmap for sustained industry-academia partnerships, joint research programs, and student skill-development avenues in advanced additive manufacturing technologies.
