Bio

Dr. Neena Khanna, joined Amrita Hospital in July 22, after a 41 years stint at AIIMS, New Delhi, from where she retired as Dean (Academics) & Professor& Head, Department of Dermatology& Venereology. In AIIMS she was involved in teaching& research as alsoclinical work & administration.She is a graduate of CMC, Vellore, & post graduate of AIIMS, New Delhi.

Teaching: At AIIMS, New Delhi she had mentored> 250 PGs in Dermatology, with > 50 having done their dissertation under her supervision(Chief or Co-Guide), with most of the researchthen being published in international journals with high impact factor (IF), with students being the 1st author in all such publications. Most of her high achieving students are positioned as Heads of Dept or as faculty at various AIIMS &highly rankedMedical Schools in India, USA& UK. Several of her students are leading private practitioners including aesthetic& hair transplant surgeons. She was instrumental in initiating the ‘soon to be started course’ of DM in Procedural Dermatology at AIIM-ND, a 1st of its kind super specializationdegree in Dermatology globally. She has been pivotal in changing the examination pattern for PGs both at AIIMS (initially at Delhi, then other AIIMS) as also at the National Board of Examination (NBE), to make assessment more holistic & clinical.She has beena PG examiner for AIIMS (Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Rishikesh), PGI, Chandigarh, NBE, Delhi University, Rohtak University, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.To facilitate learning, she has authored 12 books, including  globallythe most widely read UG text`book ‘Illustrated Synopsis of Dermatology & STDs’ She has received multiple accolades as a teacher including the Best Teachers Award (North), 2021& the prestigious Prof LK Bhutani award for excellence in teaching & research, 2013 from Indian Association of DermatologistsVenereologists &Leprologists (IADVL),the largest body of Dermatologists in India & the 2ndlargest globally. In recognition of her outstanding record of excellence, subject expertise of high order, professional achievements & leadership, she is the only Dermatologist who has been elected as Emeritus Professor (2026-31) of the prestigious National Academy of Medical Sciences, India

Research & Publications: She has been principle investigator of 19 projects funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), DBT, Ministry of Ayush& IADVLincluding an ongoing intermediate grant from ICMR & a grant on AI from IADVL. She has published > 190 articles in journals of repute, with high impact factor, mostly as 1st  or corresponding author& has an h-index of 31. She has authored 12 books, including  globally the most widely read UG book Illustrated Synopsis of Dermatology & Sexually Transmitted Diseases (Elsevier) now in its 7th She is the 1st author of 34 chapters in books including chapters in IAP Textbook of Medicine, IADVL Textbook of Dermatology &Ghai’s Essentials of Pediatrics& has been   on editorial board of IADVL’s Textbook of Dermatology.  She is reviewer for several journals with high impact factorlike  Journal of American Academy of Dermatology (IF: 11.53), British J Dermatology (IF: 9.3), Frontiers in Immunology (IF: 6.76), Frontiers in Medicine (4.47)  Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology (IF: 3.3)

Presentations: More than 200, including orations, invited lectures, presentations, panel discussions (as moderator & panelist) at international, national & state level conferences & lecture series as a visiting international faculty.

Clinical Expertise: With 44 years of clinical experience & training at Medical Schools of repute, she has expertise to manage common as also the less common skin diseases.

She has been principle investigator of 19 projects funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), DBT, Ministry of Ayush & IADVL including an ongoing intermediate grant from ICMR & a grant on AI from IADVL. She has published > 190 articles in journals of repute, with high impact factor, mostly as 1 st or corresponding author & has an h-index of 31. She has authored 12 books, including globally the most widely read UG book Illustrated Synopsis of Dermatology & Sexually Transmitted Diseases (Elsevier) now in its 7 th edition. She is the 1 st author of 34 chapters in books including chapters in IAP Textbook of Medicine, IADVL Textbook of Dermatology & Ghai’s Essentials of Pediatrics & has been on editorial board of IADVL’s Textbook of Dermatology. She is reviewer for several journals with high impact factor like Journal of American Academy of Dermatology (IF: 11.53), British J Dermatology (IF: 9.3), Frontiers in Immunology (IF: 6.76), Frontiers in Medicine (4.47) Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology (IF: 3.3)
