Distributed denial of service attack has caused major security problems all over the world. Be it small systems, or large organizations, DDoS attack can have severe impact on their functioning. It is a method used by the attacker to suspend services to that system for a period of time so that legitimate users cannot access services. Many techniques have been developed to reduce the effect of DDoS attack on the system. In this paper, we study about two different methods used to detect and prevent DDoS attacks: Blackholing and Sinkholing. The purpose of this study is to identify when to use blackholing and when to use sinkholing.

SDN is a dynamic, programmable network that follows layered architecture. The Domain Name System can be implemented in an SDN network, due to which the structural efficiency of SDN architecture can be employed on to Domain name system. For this purpose, we propose a new framework which works with four algorithms InEx (Internal/ External Check), PlyIn (for internal query), PlyOut (for external query) and FiSt (Find the Stored).

Network virtualization plays a major role in the networking research community and has been growing steadily for the past few decades. Nowadays IT based organizations are finding newer ways or possibilities for the advancement path in network virtualization to the future internet by organizing or by deploying different protocols and architectures over a shared physical infrastructure. In this paper, we study about different network technologies used in network virtualization and compare them based on their performance, scalability and other features. The purpose of this study is to know about differentiation of each network techniques that are currently used in network virtualization and we will be able to know the reason that why most of the organizations are using these techniques.

With the increase in digitization, cyber attacks have been on the rise. In this paper, we discuss the adverse effects a DOS attack has on an SDN architecture. Due to this centralized architecture, the control logic may be prone to a variety of security threats, vulnerabilities and other attacks. With the help of a hashing mechanism that is triggered on the basis of threshold values, we diagnose and prevent a DOS attack from disrupting the entire network. This paper illustrates efficient and cost effective algorithms that can be implemented in an SDN network to safeguard it from the ruinous effects of a DOS attack.
