Amrita EEE Department, Coimbatore Conducts National Workshop on “Power Electronic Applications and Control of Modern Electric Drives II”

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, conducted a two day National Workshop on “Power Electronic Applications and Control of Modern Electric Drives II” from 6th to 7th April, 2016.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Banu Prakash,. Pricol Technologies, Coimbatore. Dr. Sindhu Thampatty K. C., Chairperson, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, gave the welcome address. A session on “Recent Trends in SMPS Design” was delivered by Mr. Banu Prakash. Simulation sessions on “Three Phase Full Converter fed DC Drive (PQ Issues)” by Maya P., Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, and “Direct Torque Control of 3 phase Induction Motors” by Vidya V., Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore; and Soumya U., Assistant Professor, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore , were conducted in the afternoon section. A hardware training session on PLC from Siemens was conducted by GENN automations in the afternoon.

The session on 7th April started with the simulation of a Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC), conducted by Mohanrajan S. R., Asst. Professor, Electrical and Electronics, School of Engineering, Coimbatore. Later, Ms. P Maya, Mr Anu G Kumar, Assistant Professor, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, conducted a Hardware Session on “Three Phase Full Converter fed DC Drive (PQ Issues)” which was followed by the experimental demonstration of a solar powered water pump. A laboratory model Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) was demonstrated by Dr. Sindhu M. R., Asst. Professor, Electrical and Electronics, School of Engineering, Coimbatore, in the afternoon. A total of 42 participants attended the event. The workshop was concluded by a valedictory function.
