The School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, organized the second edition of the science exhibition titled “Amrita National Science Olympiad” from October 30-31, 2019, on the campus. The theme for this year was “Sustainable Development for a Self – Sustaining Future”.
About 360 schools registered for the exhibition from as far as Varanasi, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. Sixty teams comprising a total of 300+ students were shortlisted for the final event at the campus. The teams were divided into two categories: category 1 with students of 7th, 8th and 9th and category 2 with students of 10th, 11th and 12th standards.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Korath Mathew, who is an IT Consultant for the Government of India. He was the Director of Smart City Solutions, CTO for UID (Adhaar) and has held multiple positions with the government for various IT enabled programs. There were 29 prize winners in total under various themes and categories. The winners were awarded certificates, trophies, and a cash award.
Mr. Korath Mathew stated that he is amazed by the level of thinking and application of technology by the students and they should continue to participate in such events to improve their creativity. He mentioned that involvement of the students is the key factor to look for in such events.
Br. Anand Shenoi (Convenor – NSO 2019) remarked that originality, innovation and involvement of the students in the projects are what is he expects. This year, the students have amazed him with their innovation and involvement.
