Amrita School of Dentistry Celebrates International Yoga Day 2026

As part of the observance of International Yoga Day, the Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi, organised a yoga session for first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students. The programme commenced with an inaugural session presided over by Dr. Rakesh Suresh, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology. The event began with a prayer, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by faculty members of the Mastery Over Mind (MOM) Meditation Course and yoga instructor Ms. Valsala, formally inaugurating the session.

Before the practical session, students were introduced to the significance of International Yoga Day and the importance of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The speakers highlighted how regular yoga practice helps manage stress, improve concentration, and support a healthy lifestyle.

The yoga session, led by Ms. Valsala, included warm-up exercises, breathing techniques, and a series of basic yoga postures designed to enhance flexibility, relaxation, and mindfulness. The students actively participated in the guided session and gained practical knowledge of yoga practices that can be incorporated into their daily routines.

A total of 27 first-year BDS students, along with five faculty members and six non-teaching staff, participated in the programme. The session successfully raised awareness about the holistic benefits of yoga and reinforced the importance of integrating wellness practices into everyday life. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, and participants expressed appreciation for the informative and rejuvenating experience.
