Amrita Students Attend Session on Photography Hosted by Shri Aditya Arya

The 2nd year BA and 1st year MA Mass Communication students, Department of Communication, Coimbatore, attended an interactive session on photography on 4th August 2017 hosted by Shri Aditya Arya, a well-known travel and ad photographer with 32 years of experience in the field.

The event was organized by Delhi Public School Coimbatore. It lasted for one and half hours and showcased Aditya’s masterpieces, including the one which was shot in a Buddhist Monastery where no other photographer in the world has been allowed to take photos; and the collected, curated and archived works of other photographers.

Aditya spoke about the technical aspects of shooting with natural and artificial light and his experiences in street photography, product/industrial photography among other things. He, combining the experience of the place, the people and the camera in a fascinating rendering, revealed that there was a story behind each photograph, emphasizing the need for using photography as a historical record for preserving cultural memories.

The ‘Aditya Arya Archive’ and the ‘India Photo Archive Foundation’ of which he is the chairman and trustee, boasts of a rare collection of photographs including the body of works by Kulwant Roy, the photographer responsible for numerous iconic images of the Indian independence movement and early years of independent India.

In addition to his wide-ranging commercial and travel portfolio, Aditya’s work has been published widely in travel magazines and books. Books showcasing Aditya’s work include The Land of the Nagas, published by Mapin Publishing. His work can also be seen in the exhibition catalogues of Tejas and The Golden Age of Classical India: The Gupta Empire published in Brussels (Belgium) and Paris (France) respectively.
