Digital@ikya – Empowering Rural School Children with 21st Century Skills

AMMACHI Labs with the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) had initiated Digital@ikya; a series of 21st Century Skills workshops for building capacity amongst Indian school children. One project titled “Empowering School children in 21st Century Skills” brought a series of workshops to schools in various regions. The project works with rural youth to bring them group-based collaborative workshops in Internet Technologies, Mobile Apps, Multimedia and Maker for hands-on tinkering. These hands-on workshops introduce the children to think out of the box, innovate and build Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for societal problems that they see around them, trained students about the existing social media networks and how to navigate the web and social media safely, and provided basic CSS and HTML knowledge for the children to design, develop and launch their own website. In alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, this remarkable initiative brings educational opportunities to rural youth.
