Eighteen members of the Amrita fraternity arrived in Sweden yesterday as part of the Eureca exchange program with European Universities. For the next several months, Malardalen University in Sweden will host them as they work on research projects in different fields. Among the eighteen, six students are second-year MBA students from the School of Business. When they return in July, they will also graduate from the program.
“I feel quite fortunate to have this chance,” shared Ashish Makharia, by email, from Sweden. “It is quite cold here though.” Ashish joined the Amrita School of Business in 2007 after working with Wipro Ltd. for a year. He is thankful that such an opportunity was made available to him at Amrita, and also that the administration made such elaborate arrangements to help facilitate the visit.
“Without Pradeep Sir taking care of all passport and visa related formalities, as well as patiently answering all our questions, it would have been quite difficult for us,” agreed Hema M, M Tech student at the School of Engineering in Coimbatore. She and nine others, both students and faculty, will leave on February 2nd for Uppsala University, also in Sweden. Incidentally, Uppsala University is more than 500 years old. It is a large university with about 20,000 students, including 2000 doctoral students.
In addition to these two universities students and faculty will be hosted by Sofia University in Bulgaria, University of L’Aquila in Italy, University of Limerick at Ireland, University of Paderborn at Germany, University of Turku in Finland, University of York in UK and VU University in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Several PhD students and post-docs are also availing this opportunity; they will return to Amrita after the completion of their project work in Europe to continue work here.
