As part of Earth Day an environmental initiative coordinated by the Green Council, the students and staff of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham participated in an energizing early morning trek to Panikot Lake. The purpose of this initiative was to create awareness of our environment as well as help people build stronger connections with nature. The group travelled roughly 27 kilometers by bus to the starting point of the trek. Next, the group took a leisurely 30 minute stroll to the lake, surrounded by a peaceful, green landscape.
Sights from the lake and its stillness were very calming and refreshing to all of the participants. The most memorable moment of the entire hike was watching the sunrise when the bright colors filled the skies and all of the participants paused to reflect on the moment and show their appreciation for Mother Nature.
They spent almost an hour at the lake before continuing their hike. Swami Nijamritanandapuri, Sundari Nanda, and Brahmachari Harshamrita Swami performed a ceremony at the lake where all participants made a pledge to live according to the principles of the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) program, using sustainable living practices and being responsible stewards of our environment.
