IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch Inaugurated at Amrita School of Engineering Bengaluru

IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch was inaugurated at the Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru campus on July 23, 2015. IEEE is the world’s largest association of technical professionals with more than 400,000 members in chapters around the world. Its objectives are the educational and technical advancement of electrical and electronic engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering and allied disciplines.

In the Asia Pacific global region of IEEE, the Bangalore chapter has been globally recognized to have the maximum number of members. One of the most significant components of the IEEE-Bangalore chapter is the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE). The various activities performed by the IEEE-WIE in the recent years are encouraging women to take up various careers in the field of engineering, provide education and schooling to the underdeveloped strata of the society, provide opportunities to engineers of various fields to meet with the real world demands by using their practical knowledge and guide and submit many projects and publications contributed by women authors.

The inaugural ceremony started with the auspicious lighting of the lamp by Dr. Lakshmi V. V. S., Chair, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), Bangalore Chapter, Dr. Preetha Sharan, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, Oxford College of Engineering, Dr. Shikha Tripathy, Chairperson, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, Ms. K. Deepa, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru & Advisor, WIE Student Branch Chapter Advisor and Ms.Jyotsna, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru campus.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Shikha Tripathy. Dr. Lakshmi V.V.S. continued to give an exploratory speech. She enlightened the gathering about WIE functions and its major goals.

Dr. Preetha Sharan, Senior Member of IEEE, gave a brief technical explanation on the investigation of photonic-crystal based biosensor chip and a non-invasive technique for sugar test. Ms. Mamatha, Assistant Professor Department of Electrical & ElectronicsEngineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru campus, proposed the vote of thanks.
