The Amrita School of Biotechnology kicked off its student placement season with the arrival of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, India’s first bio-pharmaceutical company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
The Hyderabad-based company visited the Amrita campus during November 18-19, 2010.
Three M.Sc. (Biotechnology) students, Varun Haran, Adwaith Haridas and Pratheesh Babu, received offers for full-time employment with a salary package of Rs. 2.4 lakh per annum.
“It was actually a dream-come-true moment for me,” joyfully expressed Adwaith, when he heard about his selection. “Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories is world-class.”
Established in 1984, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories is an international pharmaceutical company, specializing in active ingredients, global generics and proprietary products. It exports to markets in the US, Europe and Russia, and operates from India. The company’s annual revenue is over Rs. 20 million.
Before the company came to campus, students received specialized training from the Centre for Corporate and International Relations in soft skills and other useful techniques.
“The training we received was excellent,” gratefully stated Pratheesh, who was selected. “The company representatives were very impressed with our subject knowledge also.”
Nearly one hundred graduating students from the Amrita School of Biotechnology participated in the recruitment process. After twenty students were shortlisted based on the written exam, a four-member panel conducted personal interviews.
“Overall, our students performed outstandingly,” proudly remarked Mrs. Maithily Pratheesh., Placement Coordinator. “The student scores in the written exam surpassed recruiter’ expectations.”
Placement season will continue until the end of December. Companies will be invited on campus to recruit final-year students who will soon graduate with M.Sc. degrees in Biotechnology, Bio Informatics and Microbiology.
We wish the students all the best!
