Substance Abuse Awareness Conducted Across Five Schools

As part of the Amritavarsham Sevanavaaram initiative to celebrate our Chancellor, Sri Satguru Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amma’s 70th birthday celebration on October 2nd and 3rd, over 370 students participated in the Substance Abuse Awareness programs led by the Amrita Center for Research in Analytics, Technologies & Education (Amrita CREATE) team across five schools.

The schools covered include:

  • Govt. Polytechnic College, Kalamassery
  • Govt. Higher Secondary School, Ochira
  • GHSS Azheekkal, Karunagappally
  • GHSS Kulashegarapuram, Karunagappally
  • Shanmugha Vilasam Higher Secondary School, Clappana

At Govt. Polytechnic College, Kalamassery, our team conducted the program in Sign Language for deaf students. In total, 21 students attended the session. Sub Inspector of Police, Kollam, Sri. Ajith Kumar inaugurated the program at Shanmugha Vilasam Higher Secondary School, Clappana. A talk was delivered by Dr. Jyothi Rathnam at two of the schools, along with CREATE team members. The students embraced the essential messages and pledged to raise awareness against substance use. Also, they enthusiastically participated in a trivia quiz and took a pledge for awareness and commitment to alcohol and substance abuse. The media outlets that covered the program include Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi, Janmabhumi, and Kerala Kaumudi.
