The healthcare system in the country remains unable to meet the health needs of the population because of many related factors, most prominent one being that of acute shortage of skilled manpower. Availability of human resources at all levels of the healthcare system is extremely essential in moving towards the larger goal of Universal Health Coverage. Allied health professionals include individuals involved in the delivery of health or related services, with expertise in preventive, diagnostic, curative, therapeutic and/or rehabilitative interventions. They work in interdisciplinary health teams including physicians, nurses and public health officials to promote, protect, treat and/ or manage a person (‘s) physical, mental, social, emotional, environmental health and holistic well-being. Allied health professionals are defined and interpreted differently across the globe. Allied Health Professionals have a critical role and are the support pillars in the healthcare team. There are many professionals who are trained to handle specific health problems and provide their services in their area of expertise through comprehensive assessment and diagnosis and/or treatment to promote recovery and advance quality of life.
Amrita Centre for Allied Health Sciences has a distinguished history of teaching Allied Health professionals the latest, most advanced medical and surgical practices. Amrita, in fact, has been training Allied Health Professionals from all over the country for more than 15 years.
Absence of a regulatory body was the huge hurdle for the Allied Health Sciences Sector. In December 2018 Union cabinet has approved a bill to establish a central council to regulate Allied Health Sciences sector in the country.
