Amrita Bestowed with UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has been officially made India's first ever UNESCO Chair on gender equality and women's empowerment, by The United Nations. The official bestowing of the UNESCO Chair on the Coimbatore-based university took place in Paris on Wednesday during a spiritual programme of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham's Chancellor , Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Vice Chancellor P. Venkat Rangan, said, "Even in the most advanced countries, there are very few such dedicated initiatives. In the coming four years, we will identify vulnerabilities of women and girls in India and ways of addressing. The focus will be vulnerability mapping as a result of security, education, and skill-development, social and cultural environment, climate change, disaster risks and health and sanitation."

Amrita School of Dentistry conducted the 38th National Conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, PedoByte 2016, at Le-Meridian, Kochi, from October 20 - 22, 2016. Six pre-conference courses were conducted at Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi on October 19, 2016.

IoT Challenge 2016

On October 14-15, 2016, TIFAC-CORE in Cyber Security hosted IoT Challenge 2016 workshop at  Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham, Coimbatore. The workshop was a part of the tech fest of IIT Bombay, conducted in collaboration with I3Indya Technologies and IIT Bombay. Over 200 students and faculty participated.

Given the increasing competency levels and stringent eligibility criteria, it has been tough for Indian institutions to find enough teaching talent within the country. So, institutions like Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham have been recruiting Indians settled abroad in big numbers. At Amrita a total of 198 professors were recruited from abroad in the past five years.
