Technology Enabling Center for the State of Kerala Launched at Amrita

It is the vision of the Government of India’s Department of Science & Technology to have one centre per state to serve as an Ecosystem for Technology Development. These “Technology Enabling Centres” will network researchers, institutes, national laboratories and industrialists to help researchers with market studies, characterizing, productizing, and scaling of innovations to fit the needs of the Government, MSMEs, NGOs and Corporates.

On behalf of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Dr. Shyam Diwakar, (Director, Computational Neuroscience and Neurophysiology and Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri), was invited to attend the Iberoamerican Network of Pharmacogenetics (RIBEF) Symposium on "Ethnicity, Socio-cultural Context and Education for Health Research, Latin American, European and Asian Views about Education (values, attitudes), Sociocultural Contexts (Traditional Medicine) and Pharmacogenetics for Research on Humans." held at Campus PHI, Acebo, Spain from October 6-7, 2019.

Amrita Adjunct Prof. Awarded US Dept. of Defense Grant to Develop Novel Lead Compound to Treat Breast Cancer

John Jefferson Perry, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, University of California, Riverside and International Adjunct Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, received a grant from the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, or CDMRP, of the US Department of Defense to develop a novel lead compound to treat breast cancer. "Our goal is to bring to the clinic a novel lead compound that selectively targets breast cancer cells," Perry said.

Dr. Maneesha V. Ramesh, Dean of International Programs and Director of Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, was invited to present the ongoing research and development work on rainfall-induced landslide risk reduction at the India-UK Workshop: Science for Disaster and Emergency Risk Management, held at New Delhi, from August 29-30, 2019.
