Amrita Self Driving Wheelchair Article in US Magazine 'BioPhotonics'

An article on Amrita Self Driving Wheelchair is published in the September 2018 issue of 'BioPhotonics' magazine by PhotonicsMedia. Researchers at the Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Kerala, India, have developed the self-driving wheelchair with Android-based VIVO smartphones and RoboPeak Lidar (RPLIDAR), a 360°, 2D laser scanner development kit. Led by professor Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, director of HuT, three engineering students — Raviteja Chinta, Akhil Raj, and Sarath Sreekanth — assisted with the project.

Amrita Initiates Rescue & Relief Works in Flood-Hit Kerala

In view of unabated heavy rains and floods in Kerala from late July-August 2018, the Chancellor of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), has announced that Her organization Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) will donate Rs. 10 crores to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).

Amrita Helpline to the Rescue of Kerala Flood-Hit

Amrita Helpline set up by the students and faculty of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham could connect more than 1,00,000 flood victims across the State with appropriate relief services. The 24-hour rescue helpline connected over 25,000 calls in five days helping the stranded persons to connect with government officials, the Navy, NDRF, Kerala, the police, local fishermen and other volunteering agencies. More than 400 students and staff worked in three shifts for the helpline that was set up in association with the Amrita Yuva Dharma Dhara (AYUDH), the international youth movement of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
