The National Society of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power (NSFMFP), in collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, organized the 44th National Conference on Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power (FMFP – 2017) at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, Kollam, Kerala, from December 14-16, 2017. The conference provided a platform for researchers, academicians and industrialists around the globe to explore the vast potential of research and advancements in the field of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power. The conference was inaugurated by Swami Poornamrithananda Puri, General Secretary of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, in the presence of the renowned scientist, Dr. R. B. Grover, Director, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Department of Atomic Energy, who was also the chief guest for the conference.

The conference showcased keynote lectures from eminent researchers and hands-on interactive industrial solutions from seasoned industrial experts. The conference was attended by over 300 people around the world and had 8 parallel tracks in which 210 research papers were presented. The conference had 3 keynote lectures from Dr. R. B. Grover, Director, HBNI, DAE; Prof. Emmanuel de Langre, Ecole Polytechnique, France and Prof. Revankar, Purdue University, USA, and 8 invited talks by Prof. C. H. Sohn, Kyungpook National University, S. Korea; Prof. B. H. L. Gowda, Dean (R&D), BTL Institute of Technology; Prof. R. I. Sujith, IIT Madras; Dr .Jayachandran, Dy. Director, VSSC, Trivandrum; Prof. Dr. Aravind P. V., Delft University of Technology, Netherlands; Prof. Amaresh Dalal, IIT Guwahati; Dr. Saptharshi Das, Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Prof. Keerthi Sahu, IIT Hyderabad.

The conference was sponsored by leading industrialists and research organisations such as TSI, TESSCORN, Kirloskar, Vision Asia, RWDI and KSCSTE. The cultural events were conducted in association with Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY). Sri. Kottakkal Chandrasekhara Warrier and team performed a lecture demonstration of ‘Kathakali’, the famous dance form. Introducing the symbolic meanings of different mudras used, as well guiding through the nuances of this aesthetic dance form, the team portrayed the story ‘Keechaka Vadham’ from the epic Mahabharata. A famous performing artist Smt. Kalamandalam Vrinda graced the audience with her Mohiniyattam performance.
