MSW Students Join Relief and Rehabilitation Efforts in Wayanad

The School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, through AMMACHI Labs and the Centre for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality, is continuing to support communities affected by the devastating Wayanad landslide in July 2024.

From 31st October to 10th November 2024, 30 MSW students (22 women and 8 men) from the Amritapuri campus conducted a post-disaster livelihood needs assessment in the affected areas. They carried out community mapping, household surveys, and focus group discussions with families, local leaders, and NGOs — completing 615 household surveys, 517 mental health surveys, and 220 landslide surveys.

The study explored livelihood challenges, market access, and the psychological impacts of displacement. Its findings will help design targeted interventions and policy recommendations to support long-term recovery and resilience in Wayanad.
