The webinar on Voices of Persons with Disabilities was held on April 10, 2026, by the UNESCO Chair on Assistive Technologies in Education. The Chair, Dr. Prema Nedungadi, hosted the session, which highlighted a powerful and recurring theme: the greatest barrier is not disability itself, but societal mindset.
The session brought together inspiring speakers and experts to share lived experiences, challenges, and pathways toward inclusion. They emphasized that inclusion requires more than policies and technologies—it demands a shift in perception, intention, and everyday practice.
George Abraham (Disability Activist & CEO, SCORE Foundation) reflected on how societal perceptions of ability continue to shape access to opportunities. He highlighted the importance of family support, inclusive education, and assistive technology in empowering persons with disabilities to participate fully in society.
Tayzeem Rasool from the School Services Team at Ummeed Child Development Center spoke about the need for inclusive education systems that truly adapt to different learning styles. He stressed the importance of self-awareness, supportive ecosystems, and collaborative mindsets.
Hunny Bhagchandani, Founder & CEO of Torchit Foundation, reframed assistive technology as a universal concept, encouraging a focus on abilities rather than disabilities and positioning technology as a bridge to inclusion.
Rishikesh Amit Nayak, Director and Co-Founder of Jiveesha, spoke about the importance of early identification and timely intervention. He also emphasized the need for stronger acceptance, better policy alignment, and scalable solutions, especially in underserved communities.
The discussion also explored the role of educators, institutions, and policymakers in fostering inclusive environments, with a strong emphasis on teacher training, curriculum redesign, and bridging gaps between intent and implementation. The session concluded with a call to action: to move beyond awareness toward meaningful inclusion through collaboration, innovation, and sustained commitment—ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to thrive with dignity and confidence.
