Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham strengthened its global academic and policy engagement through its distinguished participation in the prestigious BRICS Workshop on Technology Foresight and STI Policy, organized by the International Cooperation Division, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, in association with the PCPM Division, DST, on 29–30 April 2026.
Representing India in this important multilateral platform, Dr. Sujit Bhattacharya, Adjunct Professor at Amrita School for Sustainable Futures, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, was nominated as a Domain Expert within the Indian Delegation for the workshop. Further highlighting Amrita’s growing prominence in global science, technology, and innovation policy dialogues, Dr. Bhattacharya also served as Session Moderator from the Indian side during the international deliberations.
The BRICS workshop brought together policymakers, domain experts, researchers, and strategic thinkers from participating nations including Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates to deliberate on emerging approaches in technology foresight, science, technology and innovation (STI) policy, and collaborative pathways for sustainable and innovation-driven development.
In his role as Session Moderator, Dr. Bhattacharya moderated the sessions featuring presentations by India and fellow participating countries, facilitating high-level discussions on technology foresight methodologies, innovation ecosystems, strategic policy frameworks, and future-oriented science and technology cooperation among BRICS and partner nations.
Dr. Bhattacharya’s nomination as a Domain Expert and his leadership role in moderating the international sessions underscore Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s growing contribution to global policy engagement, interdisciplinary research, sustainable development, and strategic innovation discourse. His participation also reflects the university’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and advancing thought leadership in sustainable futures, science policy, and transformative innovation.
The workshop served as a significant platform for strengthening international cooperation in emerging technologies, foresight-driven policymaking, and collaborative innovation ecosystems aimed at addressing complex global challenges and accelerating inclusive development.
