A delegation from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, led by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Maneesha V. Ramesh, along with Prof. Bhavani Rao, Dean, School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, faculty members from the Amrita Center for Wireless Networks & Applications (AmritaWNA) and others, met with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Keralam V. D. Satheesan, who also holds the Disaster Management portfolio; T. Siddique, Minister for Agriculture, Soil Survey & Soil Conservation; Shibu Baby John, Minister for Forests & Wildlife Protection and Skill Development; and K. Muraleedharan, Minister for Health and Medical Education.
The delegation reiterated Amrita’s readiness to deploy its Landslide Early Warning System (LEWS) in Wayanad. Following the devastating Wayanad landslides, Amma had announced ₹15 crore towards the development and deployment of advanced landslide early warning systems in vulnerable areas. Amrita reaffirmed its commitment to taking this initiative forward in coordination with the Government and relevant agencies.
The delegation also discussed deploying Amrita’s AI- and IoT-based technologies to help mitigate human-wildlife conflict in vulnerable regions of Keralam. Amrita has developed and field-tested non-lethal systems using artificial intelligence, computer vision and real-time alerting to detect wildlife movement and enable communities and authorities to respond more safely.
During the meeting with Health and Medical Education Minister K. Muraleedharan, the delegation presented the Eye Care Champion Project, associated with UNESCO Chair initiatives at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and global inclusive health frameworks.
As part of the initiative, Amrita proposes to roll out a digital toolkit for reducing preventable blindness in Wayanad, bringing community-level vision screening and early detection to remote and tribal habitations.
