Hospital Safety Department at AIMS observes World Day for Safety and Health at Work

The Hospital Safety Department at the Health Sciences campus observed World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 30, 2014. Occupational diseases being the leading cause of work related deaths, this year’s theme focused on “Safety and Health in the use of Chemicals at Work.” 

The function was inaugurated by Mr. Francis Xavier, Chairman, National Safety Council. Sampoojya Swami Poornamritananda Puri delivered the benedictory address.

B. Ramachandran, Additional District Magistrate, Ernakulam, Dr. B. Jayaprakash, Director of Cochin Fire Guard; Dr. Bhaskaran Pillai, Radiation Safety Officer, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Superintendent, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) were the others who spoke during the program. Dr. Rajesh Pai, Additional Medical Superintendent, AIMS administered the safety pledge.

As part of the celebration, various competitive events were conducted for staff and students such as poster competition – painting and pencil, coining best safety slogan and best safety suggestion.

For the poster competition in the staff category, Erica Susan Daniel, Clinical Nurse Educator, Department of Nursing and Anu K., Assistant Professor, Amrita College of Nursing won the first prize for the painting category and Ancy Varghese, Department of Nursing won the first prize for the pencil category.

While in the students category, Rameswary, Senior Research Fellow, Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine won the first prize in painting category and Akhil Suresh, BSc Medical Radiologic Technology 2011 batch won the first prize in pencil category.

For coining the best safety slogan competition, Preetha V., Department of Nursing won the first prize in staff category and Sneha Ann Saju, Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) 2012 batch won the first prize in student category.

Remya R., Senior Personal Officer, Human Resources Department won the first prize for the best safety suggestion competition in staff category and Haritha Chandrahasan, Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP 2013 batch) won the first prize for the same in student category. 

Sampoojya Swami Poornamritananda Puri gave away the prizes for the winners.
