On 28th December 2018, Dr. Subramania Iyer, Chairman and Professor, Plastic Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was awarded the prestigious SIEMENS- GAPIO (Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) Innovation Award in Medicine for performing ‘Hand Transplant Surgery’ for the first time in India.

On November 27th, 2018, a team of reconstructive surgeons from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, was honored by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) at the 9th Indian Organ Donation Day held at New Delhi, for their path-breaking achievement of conducting a ‘Hand Transplant’.
PhD scholars at Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA) Mr. Ram Kumar and Ms. Uma Gopalakrishnan published a research work titled “Multiparty Gaze Preservation through Perspective Switching for Interactive eLearning Environments” in the Springer Journal ”Multimedia Tools and Applications” with an Impact factor of 1.5.
Amrita Darshanam, International Centre for Spiritual Studies (ICSS), in association with Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), organized a seven-day national workshop on Madhusūdana Sarasvatī’s“Siddhāntabindu” from November 10-16, 2018, at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore Campus.
