A solar-powered AI-enabled elephant detection and alert platform developed to reduce human–elephant conflict across rural India through real-time monitoring, automated detection, and instant community notifications for villages located near forest boundaries.

Project Background & Motivation

Human–elephant conflict continues to be one of the major ecological and social challenges across rural India. Villages located near forests frequently experience elephant intrusion into agricultural lands and residential areas, leading to crop destruction, property damage, injuries, and threats to both wildlife and human life.

Elephants often move toward villages searching for food and water. Traditional monitoring methods fail to provide early warnings during nighttime or low-visibility conditions, resulting in panic and delayed response.

ElephantWatch introduces an AI-powered surveillance system capable of real-time elephant detection using intelligent object recognition, remote imaging, and automated alert systems.

The project empowers rural communities with instant SMS notifications and image-based alerts, helping residents respond early and safely before elephants reach village boundaries.

System Architecture

Tree-Mounted Design

Monitoring systems are mounted on elevated trees in forest-edge environments to maximize visibility and improve real-time elephant tracking capabilities.

Pole-Mounted Infrastructure

Pole-mounted units are deployed in open agricultural fields and village boundaries where tree-based installations are not feasible.

Solar-Powered Systems

Each monitoring unit includes solar-powered energy modules, battery backup systems, camera units, and weather-protected communication infrastructure.

AI Processing Workflow

The platform performs image analysis, elephant detection, classification, and automated alert generation in real time using AI-powered processing pipelines.
