Amrita School of Ayurveda Leads Environmental Awareness Drive for School Children

As a part of the observance of World Environment Day 2026, the Department of Dravyaguna Vigyana, Amrita School of Ayurveda, conducted an Environmental awareness programme, for school students of S.V.H.S.S., Clappana on 4th June 2026. During this occasion 5 medicinal plant saplings were distributed and an interactive session on nature, climate and building a sustainable future was organised. Additionally, on 5th June 2026, Department of Dravyaguna Vigyana is planning to conduct competitions like ‘Best out of Waste’ and ‘Mobile Photography’ for college students along with sapling plantation in Amrita Herbal Garden.

Objective: The initiative sought to foster environmental responsibility, enhance awareness of climate related challenges, and inspire students to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The programme commenced with a sapling distribution and plantation in the school courtyard. Teachers, PG Scholars from Amrita School of Ayurveda and plus two (+2) students in Scouts and Guides, Manager, Principal and PTA President from S.V.H.S.S, Clappana actively participated in the initiative.

The Awareness class was on the following topics:

  • Nature and Climate – Building a sustainable future.
  • Medicinal uses of the distributed plants-
    • Rasna
    • Usheera
    • Dadima
    • Sahachara
    • Kadamba

The session highlighted the significance of environmental conservation, the impact of climate change on ecosystems and human health, sustainable lifestyle practices, and the role of young individuals in protecting the environment. The relevance of traditional knowledge mentioned in Ayurveda in maintaining health and importance of living in harmony with nature was also discussed.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the school community and successfully fostered environmental consciousness among the students.

Outcome of the Programme:

  • Enhanced awareness regarding environmental protection and climate change.
  • Encouraged students to participate in tree plantation and conservation activities.
  • Promoted sustainable practices and responsible environmental behavior among the younger generation.

The programme concluded with a pledge by the participants that the practice of sustainability for the protection of nature and the climate should not be confined to World Environment day alone. Rather, it should be embraced as a continuous responsibility and integrated into our daily lives through conscious actions and environmentally responsible choices.
