The Corporate and Industry Relations Department hosted its annual Amrita Public Speaking Contest for third year BTech students on 27th April, 2017. The highly successful event aimed to revive the art of public speaking and help students cope with increasing competition in the corporate world. Students displayed their oratorical skills by expressing their views on a whole range of interesting topics: Night Sky, Rape Culture, Sustainable Development, Breaking Stereotypes, Creativity, Language, Is Success Over-rated?, Mental Health, Strive to Perfection, Comparing Life to a Roller-Coaster Ride, Obsession with Fair Skin, Breaking Habits, Daughters, Dealing with Grief and Democracy at the Workplace.
All the sixteen finalists were equally competent and confident, but with a marginal difference in marks, four winners were chosen. Vijay Soorya S, an Aerospace student, won the first prize and Shreya Anil Kumar, the first runner up, was from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Lakshmi Satish Nair, who belonged to the Chemical Engineering Department, emerged the second runner up and Ajay Krishna M from the Electronics and Communications Department bagged the consolation prize. Mr. C. Parameswaran, Director, Corporate and Industry Relations, encouraged the students with his inspiring address and distributed certificates to the participants and awarded prizes to the winners.
