Amrita Hosts IETE Zonal Seminar

A zonal seminar on Networking Paradigms and Cyber Security was organized by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) and hosted at Amrita’s Coimbatore campus on August 13 and 14, 2010.

IEEE Fellow, Dr. R. K. Shyamsundar, Founder-Dean of Science and Technology at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai presided over the inaugural ceremony.


The Amrita Centers for Excellence in Computational Engineering and Networking (CEN) and Cybersecurity were invited to exhibit their innovations at the event.

Various projects and products developed by the centers in natural language processing, plagiarism detection, bio- medical engineering, wavelets, fractals and computational chemistry were displayed. A poster presentation was also made by Amrita research scholars.

Mr. Prasant R. Nair, the organizing secretary of the event, shared his opinion.

“IETE is India’s leading professional body with over 70,000 members and 57 centers all over the nation. The fact that our Amrita Centers for Excellence are participating, is clear indication that they are being recognized nation-wide for their research output.”

“More than 2000 people visited the exhibition stalls, which was the highlight of the zonal seminar and caught the imagination of many.”


Other exhibitors at the event included Symantec, BSNL and Vestige Technologies.

At the inaugural ceremony, Dr. K. P. Soman, Director, CEN was honored by the IETE President Lt. Gen. Ashok Agarwal for participation in the national event.

Amrita’s Prof. K. Gangadharan, also participated as Chairman, IETE Coimbatore Centre.

“The bond between Amrita and IETE is a long-standing one,” he shared. “Since 2003, the IETE Coimbatore Centre having jurisdiction over half of Tamil Nadu, has been hosted and nurtured by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

“This event is one of the premier technical events of IETE in India along with Annual Technical Conference and Mid Term Symposium, and we are glad that we, at Amrita, had the opportunity play a leading role.”
