Amrita Live-in-Labs® Showcased in 4th World Summit on Accreditation (WOSA) 2018

Amrita Live-in-Labs® was showcased as an initiative to achieve learning outcomes effectively at the 4th World Summit on Accreditation (WOSA) 2018, organized by Government of India’s National Board of Accreditation (NBA) at New Delhi, from September 8- 9, 2018. WOSA was inaugurated by Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Indian Union Minister for Human Resource Development, and attended by 700+ participants from India, USA, UK, Ireland, Korea, Singapore and Australia.

Prof. Prashant R. Nair, Vice-Chairman, Department of Computer Science and Engineering & Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus, authored the paper for this global summit with the theme of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The paper titled, “Increasing Employability of Indian Engineering through Experiential Learning Programs and Professional Bodies”, was one of the 40 selected contributory papers and posters for the summit. Prof. Rajkumar R., Deputy Controller of Examinations, School of Business, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, also represented Amrita at the summit. Mr. Michael K.J. Milligan, Executive Director, American Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET), USA, evinced interest in the Live-in-Labs® initiative.

Amrita Live-in-Labs® is an interdisciplinary experiential learning program conceptualized by the Chancellor of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) wherein students from Amrita, along with their counterparts from various premier universities, spend time in India’s villages to figure out and develop sustainable solutions for the problems facing rural communities. As Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amma has outlined her vision for the university as providing ‘Education for Life’ in addition to ‘Education for Making a Living’.

Annually, 500 students participate, including students from Harvard, MIT, Dartmouth-Massachusetts, Groningen-Netherlands, EPFL-Switzerland, Delft-Netherlands and Ryerson-Canada, facilitated by Amrita Center for International Programs (ACIP).
