Dr. Krishnakumar R., Associate Professor, Spine Division, Department of Orthopaedics, Amrita School of Medicine, has described a new clinical sign in orthopaedics and spine termed “Sternum into Abdomen Deformity” which was published in the Spine Journal- an internationally leading journal. The term “sternum-into-abdomen deformity” is descriptive of resultant severe kyphosis with a prominent abdominal wall crease from sternal/lower rib cage pressure on the abdomen, causing gastrointestinal dysfunction severe enough to cause weight loss. The co-author of this publication is Prof. Dr. Lawrence G. Lenke, a renowned spine specialist who classified scoliosis.
The Spine Journal is the official journal of the North American Spine Society. It is an international and multidisciplinary journal that publishes original, peer-reviewed articles on research and treatment related to the spine and spine care, including basic science and clinical investigations. The Spine Journal is published by Elsevier for the North American Spine Society (NASS).
