From Classroom Practice to Learning Outcomes: Monitoring ALP at Amrita Vidyalayam, Kollam

Amrita CREATE Reviews Accelerated Learning Program Implementation

Amrita CREATE conducted a school visit at Amrita Vidyalayam, Kollam, on 3 September 2026 as part of its ongoing monitoring of the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP). The visit included classroom observation, review of student participation, examination of ALP learning resources and assessment practices, and an overall review of programme implementation.

The classroom observations provided an opportunity to see how ALP activities are incorporated into the learning environment. Students participated in classroom and centre-based activities, while elements such as circle time, flashcards and phonics activities were used to support language development. The visit also highlighted the importance of making every component of the ALP learning environment purposeful and connected to student outcomes.

An important component of the programme is the role of teachers in facilitating learning rather than simply delivering content. Teachers are expected to guide students through activities, encourage participation, provide individual attention where necessary, maintain learning resources, and regularly review student work. Consistent implementation of these responsibilities helps create a structured learning environment for young learners.

The visit also reinforced the significance of timely academic follow-up. Regular correction of workbooks and creative writing activities, continued phonics practice, and appropriate use of learning resources allow teachers to identify learning needs while they are still developing. Such timely interventions can help ensure that classroom activities remain connected to the intended learning outcomes.

Monitoring visits therefore serve not merely as evaluation exercises but as opportunities to understand classroom realities and strengthen implementation. Observing the practice programme allows schools and programme teams to identify areas that require reinforcement and to plan appropriate follow-up.

The September visit reflected the importance of maintaining this continuous connection between classroom practice, teacher responsibilities and student learning outcomes. Through systematic monitoring and sustained classroom engagement, ALP continues to support foundational English language skills among young learners.
