An Amrita team, Jameer Babu (Semester 7 student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus) and Dr. Athi Narayanan S. (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus), have emerged as 'Runner Up' of NTIRE 2019 Challenge on Image Colorization for achieving best perceptual and objective quality.

Amrita Students Develop a Patented Wall Painting Robot

The Engineering student team from the School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, develop a patented wall painting robot, named "WallpBot". The students developed a robot which ascends tall walls upon which it gets mounted, independently, and simultaneously paints the surface without compromising the finish. This robot combines machine learning and computer vision with standard robotics methods to achieve its goals.

Amrita Students Devise an Efficient Method to Convert Plastic Waste to Fuel

The Students from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, had devised a method to convert plastic waste in to fuel. “The waste is decomposed at very high temperatures in the absence of oxygen. It is converted into pyrolysis oil, which can be used as industrial fuel or refined to obtain petrol. By-product char can be used to make carbon fibres," said Alluri Sharanya and R. K. Hariharan.

They were showcasing their innovation at National Science and Technology Fair 2019 organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore.
