AMMACHI Labs, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, recently completed a 10-day Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) training program in Munaikadu Village, engaging 20 women participants in hands-on learning aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods.
For three hours each day, participants explored the benefits of IMTA as a sustainable aquaculture model, while also gaining practical knowledge on value addition techniques to enhance productivity and income generation.
In addition to technical training, Life Enrichment Education (LEE) sessions were conducted, focusing on leadership, time management, and essential life skills. A key highlight was the Ideal Village activity, where participants envisioned positive changes for their community and explored pathways for collective growth and resilience.
Looking ahead, the AMMACHI Labs team will continue supporting the women through regular awareness programs, follow-up sessions, and the upcoming LEE in the Community initiative. These efforts are designed to build sustainable livelihoods while fostering confidence, leadership, and long-term community empowerment.
The Ocean Farming projects are implemented by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in partnership with Transworld, the GEF Small Grants Programme (Operational Phase 7), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
