ANRF Sponsored Three-Day National Symposium on Mathematical Applications in Control and Optimization (MACO-2026)

The Department of Science & Humanities(Mathematics Division), Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai Campus, successfully inaugurated the three-day ANRF Sponsored National Symposium on “Mathematical Applications in Control and Optimization (MACO-2026)” on 29 July 2026. The symposium is being conducted from 29–31 July 2026 with the objective of fostering research collaborations and disseminating recent advancements in the fields of Control Theory, Optimization, Fractional Calculus, Artificial Intelligence, and Applied Mathematics.

The inaugural programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp and invocation, invoking divine blessings for the successful conduct of the symposium.

Dr. K. Anitha, Chairperson, Department of Science & Humanities, warmly welcomed the distinguished dignitaries, keynote speakers, participants, faculty members, research scholars, and students. In her welcome address, she highlighted the significance of mathematical sciences in addressing contemporary engineering and societal challenges through interdisciplinary research. She also expressed gratitude to the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) for sponsoring the symposium and acknowledged the unwavering support of the university leadership in organizing the event.

The gathering was felicitated by Dr. V. Jayakumar, Principal, Amrita School of Engineering & Computing, Chennai Campus. He emphasized the pivotal role of mathematical modelling, optimization, and computational intelligence in shaping next-generation technologies and encouraged participants to actively engage with the eminent experts throughout the symposium.

Following the felicitation address, Dr. P. Selvaraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics and Convenor of MACO-2026, formally introduced the Chief Guest, Prof. K. Balachandran, Former Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. In his introduction, Dr. Selvaraj eloquently highlighted the distinguished academic and research contributions of the Chief Guest, emphasizing his pioneering work in control theory, fractional differential equations, optimization, and dynamical systems. He also acknowledged Prof. Balachandran’s exemplary contributions to higher education, research mentorship, and the advancement of mathematical sciences, setting the stage for the inaugural address.

The symposium was formally inaugurated by Prof. K. Balachandran, Former Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the growing importance of mathematical research in solving complex real-world problems and appreciated Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for organizing a high-quality academic forum that brings together researchers, academicians, and students from various institutions.

Following the inauguration, the academic sessions commenced with three enlightening keynote lectures:

  • Keynote Lecture I: Controllability of Fractional Dynamical Systems by Prof. K. Balachandran, Bharathiar University.
  • Keynote Lecture II: Stabilization of Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations by Dr. S. Marshal Anthoni, Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore.
  • Keynote Lecture III: Solving PDE-Constrained Optimal Control Problems Using Neural Networks by Prof. P. Balasubramaniam, The Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul.

Each lecture stimulated engaging discussions and provided participants with valuable insights into recent theoretical developments and emerging applications in control systems, optimization, fractional differential equations, and artificial intelligence.

The inaugural day witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students representing various higher educational institutions. The interactions between participants and eminent speakers created an intellectually vibrant atmosphere, fulfilling the primary objective of promoting collaborative research and academic excellence.

The symposium continues over the next two days with keynote lectures delivered by distinguished academicians from IIT Madras, Vellore Institute of Technology, and the University of Madras, covering contemporary developments in optimization, control engineering, stochastic systems, neural networks, and fractional-order dynamical systems.

The inaugural day concluded successfully with overwhelming appreciation from participants, marking an excellent beginning to MACO-2026 and reaffirming Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s commitment to promoting high-quality research, innovation, and interdisciplinary academic collaboration.
