Bio

Dr. Aarathi serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sciences. She completed her B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Ettimadai in 2014. Subsequently, she worked as a Research fellow in Biosensor Research Lab and completed her Ph.D. in 2020. Her research expertise includes microfluidics, computational fluid dynamics, lab-on-a-chip devices, and wearable devices. She has 3 international journal patents, 4 conference publications, and a US patent.

  1. 6 month research training at Bandodkar Research Group, North Carolina State University for the development of soft wearable devices.
  2. Development of disposable non-enzymatic glucose sensors and its integration with a non-disposable meter for Point-of-Care testing of blood glucose.
  3. Part of the team that developed the Lab-on-a-Chip diagnostic device for simultaneous monitoring of glucose, creatinine, uric acid, dopamine, and ascorbic acid.
  4. Design and development of active and passive microvalves based on magnetic and piezoelectric actuation for flow control in microfluidic devices with potential application in stand-alone automated immunoassays.
  5. Design and development of medium-throughput Lab-on-a-Chip device for mass screening of the diabetic population using indigenously developed screen-printed electrodes and a handheld electronic meter.
  6. Design and development of an on-chip serial dilution platform for the automated generation of a range of sample concentrations and its application in the electrochemical detection of haemoglobin.
  7. A part of the team that designs and develops a Paper-based microfluidic platform for the monitoring of liver function.
  8. Development of highly efficient micromixers by computational studies and experimental evaluations for Lab-on-a-Chip devices.
  9. Design, Simulation, and Fabrication of Microfluidic Channels for Lab-On-A-Chip applications using Computational Fluid Dynamics Tool (COMSOL Multiphysics) and photolithography instrument, Hiedelberg µPG 101.
  10. Development of non-enzymatic glucose sensor using different nanomaterials.
Awards & Achievements
  1. Awarded the SERB-International Research Experience Award 2022 for collaborative research on the development of wearable devices at North Carolina State University under the mentorship of Dr. Amay Bandodkar.
  2. Part of the team winning the Second prize atthe All-India Level and First Prizeat the Zonal level at the National Student Research Convention- ANVESHAN 2015 for the work titled “Affordable Point-Of-Care Diagnostic Device for the Early Screening of Cancer” organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi held at Sardar Patel University, Gujarat, during 21st to 30th March 2016.
  3. Secured 2nd place in academics for the VIII semester and 3rd place in academics for the IV semester during B.Tech Chemical Engineering 2010-2014.
