Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore Students Visit Akshaya Trust, Madurai

Fulfilling the mission of Education for Life, the students of Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore visited Akshaya Trust in Madurai, spending a day with the inmates of the organization. CII Young Indians’ student network, active in the campus, organized the visit.

Founded by Narayan Krishnan in 2002, Akshaya Trust is committed to caring for the helpless, homeless, sick, elderly, mentally ill and destitute living and dying on the streets of Madurai, India. The organization provides healthy food, care, and opportunity to rehabilitate. Approximately 500 inmates reside at Akshaya Trust Home.

The students organized various interaction programs, sponsored the day’s food and spent a day at the home. There was also an exclusive interaction session with Narayan Krishnan.

“The experience was overwhelming. It was not just about the poverty. It was also about understanding the need to be cared about, loved and the feeling of being wanted. In this money-oriented world, we miss the true essence of living as human beings. It was a contentment to know a person like Narayan Krishnan. He showed us that the purpose of life is beyond what we believed,” shared Avinash Nair, a student from Class of 2017. ASB Coimbatore faculty Dr. Deepak Gupta, Professor, and Prof. Shobhana Madhavan, Associate Professor, accompanied the students.
