The Amrita School of Arts and Sciences at Mysore organized a talent fest for Pre-University students on November 22, 2012.

The fest, Amrita Talent Time 2012, attracted over 200 student participants from 15 Pre University colleges in and around Mysore city.

The fest ostensibly aimed at providing a platform to encourage the young students’ creative skills, also offered them a glimpse into the world of higher education, especially at Amrita.

As they participated in Indian poetry, light music, and other such competitions, students also enjoyed the break from their regular studies.

“We designed the fest events to foster student skills in all aspects such as cultural, sports, knowledge and aptitude,” shared Prof. Vidya Pai C, Principal, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Mysore. She spoke to the participating students at the inaugural function.

Post the inauguration, the day saw many competitions, viz. Noopura (Contemporary Dance), GenQ (General Knowledge Quiz), Gully Cricket (Box Cricket), Music Mantra (Light Music) and Bhaava Geethe (Indian Poetry).

The dance competition Noopura proved to be a real crowd puller. Pooja Joshi, Cynthia Archer and Damy Ganapathy, renowned choreographers of Beyond Taalas, Mysore, were the honored judges for the competition. “It is a pleasure to be a part of a youth activity,” they remarked. “We loved the college and are grateful for having been invited.”

“Awesome competition! Loved it!” stated winning students of JSS Pre-University College for Women, who aced Noopura.

Students from SVEI Composite PU College, Vijaya Vittala Composite PU College and NIE PU College won GenQ, Gully Cricket and Music Mantra competitions respectively.

MMK & SDM College for Women tied for the overall championship, winning Rs. 30, 000 in prize money.

The fest culminated in a valedictory function that was attended by Mr. Basavaraj Yellappa Malagatti, DCP, Law & Order, Mysore and Br. Sunil Dharmapal, Director, Mysore campus.

Mr. Basavaraj Yellappa Malagatti gave away prizes to the winners. “This is a beautiful and well maintained campus,” he remarked.
