Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham marked a historic milestone with the successful conduct of the First Graduation Ceremony at its Amaravati Campus on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The event celebrated the academic accomplishments of the pioneering batch of graduates and set the tone for the institution’s continuing journey of excellence in education and research.

The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries:

  • Chief Guest: His Excellency S. Abdul Nazeer, Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh
  • Guest of Honour: Shri. Nara Lokesh Garu, Hon’ble Minister for HRD, IT, Electronics & Communications, Andhra Pradesh
  • Swami Purnamritananda Puri, General Secretary, Mata Amritanandamayi Math
  • Sri M.S. Vijayendra, Executive Director, Mata Amritanandamayi Math
  • Dr. Raghu Raman, Dean, Amrita School of Business
  • Dr. P. Ajithkumar, Registrar, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

The Hon’ble Governor, in his keynote address, highlighted the significance of value-based higher education in nation-building and congratulated the graduates for being part of an institution guided by the humanitarian vision of Satguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (AMMA).

Speaking on the occasion, he said: “My advice to all the students is this—never stop learning. Everywhere you go and everything you do is an opportunity to learn something new. Material things come and go, but knowledge is yours forever and no one can take that away from you.”

The Guest of Honour, Shri. Nara Lokesh Garu, congratulated the pioneering batch and emphasized the critical role of youth in driving innovation, digital empowerment, and progress in Andhra Pradesh.

Swami Purnamritananda Puri and Sri M.S. Vijayendra, representing Mata Amritanandamayi Math, recalled Amma’s vision of “Education for Life, Compassion-driven Research, and Global Impact”, inspiring graduates to apply knowledge with humility, compassion, and social responsibility.

Senior university leaders – Dr. Raghu Raman, Dr. P. Ajithkumar, and Dr. Santanu Mandal – also addressed the gathering, encouraging students to remain lifelong learners and contribute to solving real-world challenges through innovation and ethical leadership.

A special highlight of the occasion was Amrita’s adherence to its unique tradition of graduation attire. Since the early 2000s, Amrita has been a pioneer in reviving Indian traditional dress for convocation ceremonies, replacing the Western cap-and-gown. This culturally rooted practice has since been embraced by several universities across the country, underscoring Amrita’s role as a trendsetter in blending heritage with modern education.

The event also featured inspiring speeches, the conferment of degrees, and cultural presentations that showcased the diverse talents of Amrita students.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of degrees and a solemn pledge by the graduates to uphold Amrita’s values of academic excellence, compassion, social responsibility, and global impact.
